Facebook using Instagram to Bully Twitter?

social marketing on twitter vs facebook

Yesterday, Instagram disabled its image integration with Twitter, meaning that the pictures posted as a tweet are cropped and odd-looking and users must visit Instagram itself to see the photo properly.  Rather than admit any underlying motive, Instagram’s chief executive Kevin Systrom released a statement saying;

“We’ve launched several improvements to our website that allow users to directly engage with Instagram content through likes, comments, and hashtags and now we believe the best experience is for us to link back to where the content lives.”

Okay. But we all know that Instagram is now owned by arch-nemesis Facebook right? And the two major platforms have been at war over the last few years. In order to gain followers back, Twitter has spent the last few months restricting third-party apps, in order to appease the masses. Facebook is constantly updating its settings and policies in order to deepen the sharing experience, thus making it more appealing to advertisers.  It is all about the revenue and who touts the best “user experience.”  Instagram is now developing a more web-based interface and supports Facebook likes while Twitter is working on their own photo filters. Facebook may have won the battle, but the war is far from over.
