Amazon want a slice of the U.K. takeaway market

Amazon Fresh, take away

Amazon Takeaway Market

Takeaway delivery in the U.K. is big business, with over £30 billion alone being spent in 2013.

Brand giants Amazon have taken a shine to the market and are looking to take a stake of that vast fortune.

Amazon’s speedy delivery service, Amazon Prime Now, offers delivery on some items within an hour of being purchased. This is what they intent to do for fast food delivery.

Amazon has trialed this service in the States and is looking to take on the giant fast food companies Deliveroo and Just Eat.

In addition to this service, Amazon has also set up Amazon Fresh, a grocery delivery service. It runs in three states in the USA and is set to come to the U.K.

This obviously is going to upset a few people. Amazon is stepping into territory that has been dominated by other brands such as Just Eat and Tesco for many years now.

Amazon know they can do it as well, the services they offer currently are excellent and loyal customers will turn to them if they branch out to other fields.

So what can other online takeaway brands do?

They need to step up their game. Amazon has the financial backing to take this on, but the already established companies must use their reputation and know-how to keep a hold of their market share.

If they know that Amazon is coming, strategies must be put in place to deal with the potential loss of business.

It is key for online takeaway brands to adjust their content marketing plans, marketing messages to social media strategies.

They must also sharpen up in all areas. By this we mean all areas where consumers aren’t 100% satisfied, they must improve in each department, from ordering to delivery, to make sure they are virtually faultless.

For some takeaway food delivery brands it will be more about damage limitation. It’s inevitable that Amazon will take some market share but it is up to companies like Tesco and Just Eat to ensure they don’t take too large a slice.

If contingency plans are drawn up and implemented correctly, then there is no reason why the current takeaway companies can’t remain at the top of their field.
