Facebook to add a “Want” Button to enhance e-commerce prospects

Facebook has unveiled plans to enhance the commercial side of its online network. The system will allow retailers to create “Collections,” a catalogue of wares, that users can “Like,” “Want,” or “Collect.”

When a member presses any of the buttons they will be offered the chance to buy the product from the retailer’s website.  The feature will also publish the information to friends of the user in order to generate more interest.

Facebook said;

“We’ve seen that businesses often use pages to share information about their products through photo albums”

“Today, we are beginning a small test in which a few select businesses will be able to share information about their products through a feature called Collections.

“Collections can be discovered in News Feed, and people will be able to engage with these Collections and share things they are interested in with their friends. People can click through and buy these items off of Facebook.”

The trial is taking place in the U.S. with participating retailers including Victoria’s Secret and Neiman Marcus, a high-end department store.
