Facebook Ads. The Online Billboard?

Facebook ads

Facebook ads are the little images displayed on the side of the website; they are usually informing you of a product or service while browsing your friend’s profiles. Many people think of them as online versions of billboards with the added business benefit of a website link. They allow a business to inform and persuade their potential customers and then allow them to simply click on the ad to visit the company’s website.

Why use ads on Facebook instead of other sites?
Facebook has already become the largest social network and is likely to soon become the most visited website on the planet, surpassing even Google. Despite so many different types of people visiting the website, its creators have designed an easy to use system. A person with a wealth of online ad knowledge will be able to utilise the platform and drive considerable amounts of traffic. Facebook gives Marketers a list of options, from which gender and age group you want to market to, all the way down to the activities they like and groups they have joined. If you sell fishing equipment in Kent wouldn’t you want fishermen in Kent to know about it? With users giving so much information away on Facebook it makes it easy for trained marketers to target the ideal customer.

Are my customers on the site?
Facebook is no longer just for the university prep boys and girls. The network now has over 29 million British users and nearly 700 million people worldwide. 37.1% of the users accessing the site are over 35 and a recent study has found that 71% of UK grandparents questioned were on Facebook.

Do online ads actually work?
Analyst company eMarketer have had to double they’re predicted online ad spending projection for 2011 thanks to the success of online graphical ads. Facebook has also made nearly all of its profits from its Facebook ads. Recent projections suggest that Facebook will become the top display advertiser by the end of the 2011, earning a staggering $2.19 billion.

  1. I must agree! Facebook is one of the biggest social media networks nowadays and its users are not only limited to one target group, hence, using it would spike up online sales. Blog writing is also one of the ways to achieve that success in internet marketing. If you have great content, an interesting topic and the determination to use social networking to its fullest extent, there is no reason that YOU can’t get results from of a blog.

  2. I haven’t used Facebook ads before and have always stayed away from that type of advertising. In the begining it seemed like all of the ads were for small companies but now I’ve seen big brands using the service I’m a little more interested. The ad system does seem quite targeted and so I may experiment with a few ads to see success rate now.
