Daily global page views chart

Daily global page views chartTumblr is a micro blogging website but unlike Twitter it takes the  form of a normal blog with fewer words. The internet start up was created in 2007 by David Karp and Macro Arment and allowed users to post images and video as well as text directly on to the network. Currently the site has been populated by Fashion users and creative’s that want to share own creations as well as great content they have found elsewhere.

Since 2007 when the platform had 75,000 bloggers, the site has grown dramatically and gained 18.8 million users across the network. The site which has a team of just 27 employees has transformed 250 million page views in July 2009 to 250 million page views in one single day in May 2011.

The success of the platform has been to its ease of use with nearly any user being able to create an account and start posting content straight away. The company’s founders put their success down to the way users can express themselves in creative ways, something they state that Twitter and Facebook don’t allow. The profiles act more like websites and allow users to change the look and feel of them; users don’t simply upload a profile picture and change the background image.

Companies have been interacting on the network recently, these have tended to be publications and news sites including The New York Times, The Huffington Post and Rolling Stone magazine.
